I've been trying to play this game, and basically I can install it, then after a few minutes it crashes and refuses to start up again.
I've found if I install it back up it runs again fine, but even starting Exult, and then closing it, causes it to refuse to run again. Anyone know the problem?

Re: Exult unresponsive after one play
More details are needed.
Checking your error logs for exult which should be, if you're using Windows, in C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Exult
might shed some light.
you'll likely need to go to first go to tools\folder options\view
and 'show hidden files and folders.'
The 2 error logs will be .txt files.
Post them.
Also, in the same spot as you find these logs, open up the exult.cfg with
textpad or note pad and post what's in there.
Post your operating system and what version of exult you are using. You might try downloading the 1.4 snapshot
Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista/7 binary snapshot
near the bottom of the downloads page,
and see if that gets things working first.

...also, what resolution are you using? I found that full screen was sometimes buggy.

Re: Exult unresponsive after one play
I was unable to find the error logs despite showing hidden folders. I'm not sure if it's just a variation to get to them or not.
I did however check the binary snapshot and it's working fine for me. Is there anything I should be concerned about in difference to the regular?

We don't know. We asked you for more information, we didn't get it, we can't answer your questions. We can only stare at our crystal balls and say "the future is far away or right now or maybe yes, or no..."Is there anything I should be concerned about in difference to the regular?

Re: Exult unresponsive after one play
Did you really check the right error logs spiffy? I don't mean to condescend, but Exult exists in two places on your HD, as I found out, when having troubles of a different sort.
There are so many variations that, and that's really understating the situation, that without more info, which might mean you have to really hunt, no one can help you.
Than again, if you got things working with the 1.4...

Re: Exult unresponsive after one play
If you're asking, generally, "is it OK to play with the snapshot instead of the 1.2 version", the answer is yes - even though the snapshot is labelled "unstable" (since the code is constantly being updated), it's actually pretty stable nowadays and in fact features several improvements over the 1.2 version. There's no guarantee you won't run into any bugs, but that's also true of the 1.2 version (not to mention the original game... (and for that matter every piece of software ever)).

Re: Exult unresponsive after one play
At this point the original game's themselves have more shortcomings and bugs then Exult has..
With the exception here and there, 1.4 has for the most part worked just fine to complete a game since its first been available..
We wont mention us Mac users troubles though eh Dominus??
You could just use the handy search feature on your PC for the word EXULT.
Somewhere in there a logfile for Exult is going to come up..
Does Microsoft's crash reporter pop up when it happens??
You can always click More Details (or More Info or whatever its labelled) most of the time to get an idea of why and where it crashed...
